We were asked to provide thousands of plants for the grounds of Grantley Hall, a new five-star luxury hotel and spa in the Yorkshire Dales.
The hall dates back to 1680 and opened as a hotel on July 6th 2019.
Grantley Hall, a grade II listed property in Ripon, has undergone a complete restoration that includes the addition of a new wing, comprising 47 rooms, a wedding and banqueting suite, private event spaces, a spa, gym and swimming pool.
Thousands of plants were required to add colour and depth to the beautifully manicured lawns and gardens.
The aim was to restore the grounds to their original splendour, in keeping with the hall’s rich history. Lady Jane Furness, who lived in the hall at the turn of the 20th century, was a keen gardener and helped create the ornamental Japanese gardens using materials sourced from nearby Brimham Rocks.
As part of this restoration, we were appointed to supply an impressive order of plants to restore the grounds to their former glory. Our plant supply included a number of large topiaries, including Fagus (Beech) domes and Buxus (Box) balls, as well as thousands of herbaceous, shrubs and grasses for decorational borders.
To complete the project there were several large hedging elements, including Hedera Hibernica (Ivy) screens that will be used to create partitions in the Hall’s gardens.
Working with Grantley Hall has been a real privilege, we have watched the project progress from its inception into something unique to the area. This will undoubtedly attract new discerning visitors to the North Yorkshire area, we are delighted to have played a small part in creating an inspirational first impression.
Paul Forrest, Estate Manager for Grantley Hall commented “We were very keen to use a local business to supply Grantley Hall and very fortunate to have the Johnson Nurseries only a short distance away. I have found that plant availability has always met my requirements and the cash and carry service, in particular, is always well stocked with a good selection. A great team of dedicated staff and a great example of a professional family business
