We supplied plants worth more than £75,000 for an award-winning holiday development in Cornwall. Located on the north coast of the county, in an area of outstanding natural beauty, the resort brings together the best of seaside and rural life.
Darwin Escapes, one of the UK’s fastest-growing travel brands, tasked Johnsons with providing plants for one of its 22-holiday parks. The Sandymouth Resort, near the beautiful beach at Bude, recently underwent a substantial modernisation process that included the upgrade of both indoor and outdoor facilities.
Johnsons was asked to supply plants over a period of six months to transform the complex, which includes a choice of luxury holiday lodges, static caravans, an on-site restaurant, swimming pool and outdoor gym.
The introduction of a Go Active programme offering a range of family-friendly activities such as football, crazy golf and a pirate-themed play area brought an increased focus on the park’s outdoor amenities and landscaping.
Johnsons supplied thousands of shrubs and hedging transplants along with hundreds of herbaceous plants over a period of six months, from March through to September.
The supply included 8,000 hedging transplants, 9,000 shrubs, 800 herbaceous plants, 80 Hedera Hibernica screen troughs and 10 Cordyline Australis.
Plants supplied by Johnsons have helped transform the holiday park, which now boasts stunning landscaped gardens and communal areas.
Sandymouth Resort won the Relax and Explore Cornwall in the 2018 Hoseasons Awards.
Ellie Richardson, Johnsons Nurseries marketing manager, said: “It’s wonderful to be involved with Darwin Escapes again. Another Darwin Escapes resort we worked on in 2016 won ‘Best Large Park in Britain’ at the 2017 Hoseasons Annual Awards and it was great to be associated with this. We also recently supplied plants for the company’s Norfolk Woods Resort and Spa, which is noted for its luxury and high standards.
