Overview

We were approached by Gavin Jones Ltd, to provide thousands of plants to help transform the leisure complex ‘Thorpe Park’.

Thorpe Park is an extension of the existing retail site off Junction 46 of the M1. The complex boasts a new shopping area, The Springs, which includes high street giants Next, Boots, TK Maxx and M&S Food. As well as an incredible range of shops, visitors can also enjoy a cinema, gym and several restaurants.

The Challenge

Thorpe Park, which underwent a £48 million, two-year development to bring The Springs to life, required thousands of plants to enhance the new leisure hub.

The aim was to bring to life to Thorpe Park and create a ‘go-to’ retail and leisure destination for the residents of Leeds and beyond.

The Solution

The supply, worth over £50,000, included dozens of herbaceous species including around 1,000 Astilbe Snowdrift, 700 Ajuga Reptans Atropurpurea, 500 Geranium Mac, 300 Persicaria Bistorta and 200 Iris Sibirica. The adjoining country park also benefited from the supply, in a scheme designed by Ares Landscape Architects Ltd and installed by landscaping experts Gavin Jones Limited. Hundreds of shrubs, grasses and herbs were also provided for the 140 acres of parkland and open public spaces.

The Result

Working on this project alongside Ares Landscape Architects Ltd and Gavin Jones Limited has been a pleasure. It was fantastic to see the complex come to life and develop into a prime destination for shoppers and diners alike, as well as gym and restaurant goers.

Ricky Whiteman, senior estimator at Gavin Jones Limited, said: “It has been amazing to see the progression of Thorpe Park throughout the various stages of this project. The site has really taken shape, creating an incredible leisure space which I’m sure will attract a great number of visitors.

“We were initially appointed by GMI Construction to complete the soft landscaping package, we then called on Johnsons to supply the plants, this really helped put the finishing touches to the scheme and add some life to the space for visitors to enjoy.”

Here at Johnsons we have many years’ experience of providing plants to the retail and leisure sectors. Recent supplies include Spinningfields, Manchester and The Event Complex, Aberdeen.
